📋 What is mcp-server?

mcp-server is a Model Context Protocol (MCP) server designed for Forward Email. It connects AI assistants to your inbox so you can manage messages with smart, automated help. This application runs on Windows and works with popular email protocols like IMAP, POP3, and SMTP.

You do not need any programming knowledge to get started. This guide will walk you through how to download, install, and run mcp-server on a typical Windows computer.

💾 How to Download and Install mcp-server on Windows

Follow these steps carefully:

  1. Open the GitHub Page

  2. Find the Latest Release

  6. Start mcp-server
    Look for the mcp-server icon on your desktop or in the Start menu. Double-click to open the application.


🔧 Basic Configuration

When you open mcp-server for the first time, you will need to connect your email account. You can do this by entering the following information:

  • Email Address
  • Password or App-Specific Password
  • Incoming Mail Server (IMAP or POP3)
  • Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP)
  • Ports for IMAP/POP3 and SMTP (usual defaults are often pre-filled)

If you use Forward Email or another email provider, check their support page for these server details.

mcp-server will then link your inbox with AI assistants securely using the MCP framework. The AI can help you sort messages, search your inbox, and provide context on your emails.

After setup, the program runs in the background or as a small window. You can connect your AI assistant by following these steps:

  1. Open the Dashboard
    This interface shows your inbox status and connected assistants.

  2. Check Connection Status
    Verify that mcp-server has successfully connected to your email account.

    Pick which AI assistant to use or configure options like response style and inbox filters.

  4. Use Chat or Commands

mcp-server connects to your email using secure protocols (IMAP, SMTP with TLS). Your login information stays on your computer and is not shared externally.

  • Installer won’t run or open:
    Make sure your Windows is up to date. Run the installer as an administrator by right-clicking and selecting "Run as administrator."

  • Can't connect to email:
    Double-check your server settings and credentials. Ensure your email provider supports third-party connections.

  • AI assistant not responding:
    Restart the mcp-server application. Check your internet connection.

  • Firewall or antivirus blocking:
    Allow mcp-server to access the internet through your firewall or antivirus software.
